Increased production in Spain

Stuttgart, 20th of March.
As a result of higher demand, Mercedes-Benz is to increase daily production of the 'Vito' transporter van and the V-class, large capacity saloon car, to
300 units a day from the 1st of April. In addition, there will be a third shift and 660 new positions at the Vitoria (assembly) and Barcelona (engine manufacture) plants.

Gears without a clutch

Stuttgart, 20th of March.
Mercedes-Benz has developed an economical alternative to the automatic gearbox for the A-class - the automatic clutch. The driver removes his foot from the gas pedal and then moves the gear stick.
The system recognises that the driver wants to change gear and instantly activates the clutch. The A-class is available with a five-speed gearbox and on request, with the automatic clutch as well or in the five-speed automatic variety.
